A highly regarded specialist SEN school in Stevenage is seeking a dedicated BSL SEN Teaching Assistant (Level 2 or above) to support a hearing-impaired pupil on a 1:1 basis. This is a full-time, 12-week temp-to-perm opportunity within a well-resourced, therapeutic SEN setting that supports pupils with complex and profound needs.

The school caters for children and young people with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties, operating with a strong focus on communication, independence, and holistic development. Staff work closely with therapists and families to provide consistent, child-centred support in a calm and nurturing environment.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 support for a hearing-impaired pupil throughout the school day
- Use British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication, learning and engagement
- Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs
- Work closely with teachers, speech and language therapists, and support staff
- Support emotional regulation, independence, and social interaction
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds a Teaching Assistant qualification Level 2 or above (or equivalent experience)
- BSL qualification essential (Level 1 minimum, Level 2+ preferred)
- Experience working with SEN pupils, ideally within a specialist setting
- Patient, nurturing, and highly consistent in their approach
- Committed to a full-time, long-term role with a view to going permanent
